With dedication and the courage to redefine time-honored traditions and rediscover forgotten gems, I not only refine the finest organic Arabica coffee beans to their most exquisite perfection, but also transform local organic lupins into a new and caffeine-free coffee experience.
Anyone who prefers caffeine-free coffee will love lupin coffee! The "lupins" aren't a tropical island group where this exotic coffee grows. They're native legumes, similar to soy, but much healthier and higher in protein. They bloom so beautifully that you could even give them as a bouquet to any woman. Special varieties can be roasted and prepared just like coffee beans. My very first cup was awarded "Organic Product of the Year 2023."
All my roasted coffees are specialty coffees, which—just like fine wines—are not blended with other varieties and can stand on their own. The single-origin green coffee beans always come from a single farm or cooperative, allowing them to be roasted into a single-origin coffee. Only in this way can anyone, with a little passion, truly discover and appreciate all the different aromas of the various coffee-growing countries.
The name DUNKELSTEINER comes from my homeland, the Dunkelsteinerwald forest. Located on the southern bank of the Danube in the Wachau, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this beautiful region in the triangle formed by Krems, Melk, and Sankt Pölten has always been steeped in legend. Here, in 2018, I began to transform the first sacks of green coffee beans with the kernels of the Coffea arabica cherry – and later, even the sweet lupins that grow here. The roastery grew and moved to the capital of Lower Austria in 2023.
